Yesterday all of the sophomores in my school went to the Knesset, which is the Israeli Parliament. The Knesset is situated on a hill in Jerusalem called Giv’at Ram (the high hill). Next to the Knesset are the government and high court of Israel.

Recycling Law

A new law had been proposed at the Knesset (The Israeli parliament), which states that our garbage will be divided into two trash bins, one for unrecyclable trash and one for recyclable trash (paper and metal will have an additional bin). Anyone who will not separate their trash will be fined. I am so happy that this law had been finally proposed!

The Public’s Voice

As part of the Israeli government’s interest is public opinions, it created a portal for the public to respond to governmental issues and vote on state affairs.

The portal includes descriptions of impending government regulations and the public can vote on the matter or make suggestions for it.

Many people in Israel enter the portal every day and participate in the poles and discussions. A government team reads the comments, gives feedback to the people and then sends their conclusions to the government. This gives the public a real voice in the final decisions the government makes.

This way the Israeli citizens are actually involved in the governmental processes and decisions and it makes our democracy even stronger.
