I joined the Scouts a few months ago. I have to mention that I really enjoy going to the Scouts and taking part in its activities: trips, meetings, etc. I also hope to continue going to the Scouts in the next years, and maybe even guide other, younger members.

Before I will tell you about the topic of my article, the Purimon, I would like to give you some background information. Oh! If you wonder what the Purimon is, then wait just a little bit, as I am going to get to it right away.

Every year, the Jews celebrate a holiday called Purim. A very brief version of the story of Purim is that in the old empire of Persia, a high ranked man, Haman, had decided to annihilate the Jews in the empire. Yet eventually, the Jews were saved. This is why we tend to wear costumes in Purim – so we remember how the tables were reversed. It’s similar to Halloween.

All right. Now, let’s get to the Purimon: this is done every year by the Scouts in Israel. It’s a celebration for the community on Purim, with games and entertainment by the Scouts.

(Preparations for the Purimon)

The ninth graders and the older Scouts (including me) have been working really hard for the Purimon. And in my perspective – the Purimon was a great success: we built many devices, such as a rotating carousel  and a swinging “pirate” ship. More than 1500 people from Kiryat Bialik and the surrounding areas came to the event! I was glad to take part in such a major project and I was happy to see the glowing faces of the children and the parents.

Here are some pictures I took from the Purimon. By the way, I decided to wear the costume of PSY, the famous singer of the Gangnam Style video. I even won the first place in our school’s costume competition!
