All we need for a good tennis tournament is nice sunny weather, a city by the sea and some good vibes – that’s exactly what Eilat offers.

For the past 3 years Eilat has been hosting the Europe/Africa group competition of the national women tennis teams called the Federation Cup – this year the tournament was held on February 2013. 16 teams took part in this torment, and there were some excellent, top players from the tennis world.

Unlike the cold weather in Europe, in Eilat the players enjoyed the hot weather and Eilat’s beaches and lots of tourist attractions. Israel was raffled in pool c with Poland, Turkey and Romania. There were some very interesting games and truly great tennis.

Israel finished the tournament in 5th place, which keeps us in the same group next year. The Israeli team gave a good fight, showed some very good abilities and was given a lot of support from the fans.

When Israel’s No. 2 player, Julia Glushko, knew that Eilat will host the tournament again, she said: “I can’t believe that we will play at home for the 3rd time in a row. It’s a great feeling to play with our home crowd and I hope that the top tennis players will bring more crowds.”

The tennis international association complimented the Israeli tennis association, saying: “We are aware of the excellent work you have done in hosting the games over the last two years, and are confident that you will continue the wonderful work this year. In addition, we were very much impressed by your tireless commitment to host an international competition in preparation for the week before the games.”
