You know how every little girl dreams of wearing the perfect dress and becoming a princess just for one day? Well, it doesn’t always work out so perfectly…

It happened on Purim 2004 when I was in the 1st grade and like all the other girls I wanted to win the school costume contest.

The day came and each contestant had to go down the stairs and onto the stage and show their costume in front of the whole school.

I was wearing my “princess of love” costume and by the second step I tripped and fell down the stairs.

It was the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to me! Everyone in the crowd started to laugh, even the teachers.

I ran to the corner and started to cry, I didn’t want to talk to anyone, but then my dad showed up, gave me a big hug and said “this is not the end of the world, one day you will laugh about it.”

So, yes, at first I felt terrible and swore I would never wear puffy dresses again or get up on that stage again, but then I won the first prize in the contest. The judges said I was creative.

My dad was right, it was not the end of the world, and it was even a bit funny.

I learned that when I fall (and I fall all the time) I just have to get up, laugh and send a big smile to the world and things will be ok.
