The Passover vacation has ended today.

The holiday is celebrated because of the people of Israel that were released from servitude in Egypt to freedom thousands of years ago. So once a year, Jews from all over the world celebrate this symbolic freedom. And what is the meaning of freedom for me these days?

Well, freedom for me is the feeling of independence, or in other words freedom is when I make my own decisions and choices. Freedom is when I take responsibility for myself and act on my own.

When someone doesn’t take responsibility he depends on others, therefore his personality depends on others and he cannot develop his entity.

Every day, when I make decisions in my life, like: what should I learn at school? Who are my friends? Should I take risks? Should I be involved? I have many dilemmas in my life.

Whether these are good decisions or bad decisions, these choices build my personality and make me who I am. I am learning from them and become a stronger and wiser person.

So when the people of Israel went out from Egypt thousands of years ago, I’m pretty sure it was very difficult for them to stop being dependent on the Egyptian people who told them what to do all the time. But, the exodus, which is celebrated on Passover, had led us to freedom that we deserved and that also made us who we are.
