Every year on March 8 since 1957, the world celebrates the International Women’s Day. This day was dedicated to showing the integration of modern women in the economy, politics and generally in society and to praise their achievements in these fields.

This idea started from a protest of hundreds of female employees of textile factories in New York. They decided that they had too many work hours, very low wages, and inhumane working conditions, which just became worse with time.

This day is based on the principles of feminism. Feminism is a world view that claims that the oppression of women must be stopped, as well as the discrimination against them in society.

In my opinion, it’s really important that everyone will celebrate International Women’s Day. It’s important that the modern world will have full equality between men and women.

Although the status of women in society has improved over the years, still the average salary of a woman is 30% lower than a man’s.

Here are some facts about the progress of women in Israel:

1. Golda Meir was a former Prime Minister of Israel. She was the first one in the world to be democratically elected (and not rule because of family affiliation).
2. Dalia Itzik was the first woman chosen to be the Speaker of the Knesset in Israel.
3. Dorit Beinish was the first woman President of the Supreme Court.

So, have a Happy Women’s Day!
