This week on May 8 2011, Israel will come together to remember the fallen soldiers who gave their lives to protect us and give us the opportunity to live in Israel without fear.
On the eve of the Memorial Day there is a big ceremony at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, where the bereaved families, the government representatives and the whole nation light candles, sing sad songs, pray and stand still during the siren. The ceremony ends with the national anthem HaTikvah.
The next day there are many ceremonies all over the country: at schools, cultural institutions and work places and there’s also a second, two-minute siren. At schools the teachers talk to the students about this important day.
