Antisemitism in Russia

As most of us know Eastern Europe is a place which has a long history of hatred towards Jews. Betwwen 1940 (the complete unification of the soviet union) and 1984 the soviet government attempted to hide anti-semitism but during it’s final years the tention broke free and anti-semitism reared it’s ugly face once again.

On December 12 there was a really big storm in Israel and there were floods in many places around the country.

After the storm a 2000 year-old Roman-era statue of a woman was discovered in Ashkelon. The statue was found in front of the Holiday Hotel by the Antiquities Authority. Parts of the statue were damaged during the storm.

This year, the tree planting in northern Israel for Tu Bishvat was all about rehabilitation of the Carmel after the huge fire in which 44 people died and over 12,000 acres of natural forest burned down.

The exact origins of Anti-Semitism are unknown but some theories claim that the story of Haman, the advisor to Ahashverosh of Persia from the Book of Esther, was real, which would make him the first anti-Semite in written history.
