In our days we treat the TV as a given, but I want you to know that it is not to be taken for granted because in Israel the TV broadcasts started only 40 years ago.

The first broadcasts were in black and white because the technology was not as advanced as it is today.

The “Educational TV” started 1 year before the Israeli television was established because it was the beginning of the process and the broadcasts were not consecutive. This channel still exists today and its purpose is to teach kids different things such as: English, Math, correct Hebrew and more.

The first real channel of the Israeli television was channel 1 (it also still exists). The first broadcast was a live broadcast of the IDF parade on Independence Day. Both channels share broadcasting hours because they’re on the same frequency.

One famous anchorman, who has been on TV for the past 40 years, is Hayim Yavin. He anchored a news show called Mabat.

There were a few old shows that were quite famous at their time (like Zehu Ze, Domino, Ma Pitom?).

More and more channels started broadcasting – channel 2, channel 10, channel 6 (kids channel) and many others. The broadcasts switched to color and being on TV became a really big deal.

Later on the cable companies started working (like HOT and YES) and satellite broadcasts changed the face of TV forever. The companies compete against each other all the time.

Today the Israeli television is advanced and there are new shows and programs all the time (we have Israeli dramas, soap operas, comedies, etc.)

It will be interesting to see what will happen after 50 years of Israeli TV.
