A bright red plane shoots up from the runway. It performs several corkscrews, flips, and other unbelievable acrobatic maneuvers. Then the plane lines up with the runway and makes a perfect landing. However, the operator of this plane isn’t on the plane. He is on the ground with a remote control.
The scenario described above will occur countless time this coming June near Masada, Israel. The event is called the 8th Jet World Masters. This is the Olympics of Radio Controlled Jets or RC jets. The pilots or controllers are the champions of the world coming from Israel, Russia, America, Great Britain, Spain, and many more countries around the world.
The planes that fly in this tournament are the fastest models on the planet. They reach speeds of up to 250 kilometers per hour! They are also some of the largest in the world. They stretch over 4 meters long and their wingspan is 6 meters or more. They are powered by huge jet engines that spin at several tens of thousands RPM. The jets are worth thousands of dollars in materials and tens of thousands in hours of hard labor.
The beautiful area around Masada will be specially prepared for the competition. The competitors and enthusiasts will stay in the best 5 star hotels near the Dead Sea. A special, air-conditioned pavilion will be built near the runway of the tournament, which will be fully renovated for the event. Many shops will be opened around the runway to supply equipment for the competitors, for example: gas, oil, tools, and more.
The 8th Jet World Masters competition is the Formula One racing of the model world. It demands great skills and many hours of training to master the technique. May the best pilot win!
