August 28th 2009 was a Thursday, but not a regular Thursday.
Gilad was 23 years old this week – “celebrating” his 4th birthday captivity.
At the center of Mizpe Hila , where Gilad used to live, 300 people had assembled. Among them were, of course, Gilad’s family and friends.
They lit candles and inflated white balloons that symbolized freedom.
His parents baked him a cake and raised a chair 23 times.
Gilad’s mother, Aviva, sent Gilad a message for his 23rd birthday: “We are sorry that we couldn’t keep you here in safety and couldn’t prevent this infinite pain that you are now feeling…”
His 23rdbirthday was not supposed to look like this…
We all wish that Gilad is still alive and healthy and will come home soon.
